Something Different, 81: What if it doesn’t?
After the occassion, it was already 10am. The sun was starting to rise and people were starting to leave the park. Except the teachers and the students, of course. The teachers were busy talking to some of the parents, and the other students were, eating. The occassion, if I do say so myself, was a success. Currently, me, Nat and the others were lying on the warm cut grass, looking up the skies. Except for Dash, Paul and Penelope. I was on top of Dash’s lap, and he was holding my hand. “Good thing tomorrow’s a Saturday.” Nat said suddenly, “I’m soooo sleeping all day tomorrow.” “Yup.” Eric agreed, as he took a bag of tortilla chips from this Adidas blue bag pack. “You’re serious, Nat?” Paul asked. Nat nodded and wink, “Of course.” Paul just smiled. Nat then turned around to look at Eric, who was eating happily with himself, “Eric,” Nat started to talk. “Share, pretty please.” Eric rolled his eyes as he tore the bag open, and munched on a chip. “Fine.” Nat giggled, “Thanks.” “You guys aren’t going out tomorrow?” Jesse asked. “Not that I have in mind.” said Nat, munching a chip. “Not sure either.” I said. “Well, I’ll see if I’m free.” London said. “You’re going out, Jesse?” Jesse nodded, “Maybe. We can hang out.” London blushed. “Okay.” I just smiled. Life’s been okay lately. Well, I guess. I looked up and smelt the fresh air. The sound of the birds chirping and singing and feeling the wind blow through your face. It almost feels like heaven. But then I got disturbed by a ringing sound. I quickly sat up and looked around. I saw Dash search for something in his pocket. He finally took out his ringing LG and put an annoyed face on. But I swore I saw him shaking. “Who is it?” I asked curiously. “I’ve to take this call.” He said. I raised an eyebrow up. “Well, why can’t you talk here?” “I just… can’t.” He said getting up. I was still sitting, I didn’t bother to get up. “But who is it?” Dash bit his lip, “Uh. Dad.” “Right.” I said. “I’ll just be one minute.” He smiled and bent down to kiss me on my lips, “Won’t take long. Promise.” I nodded, “Kay.” I said as he walked away. I have a bad, bad, feeling about this. I suddenly felt someone sitting next to me. I looked beside me and saw Eva and Nat. “You okay?” Nat asked. I nodded. “‘Course. Why would you think I’m not?” Both Nat and Eva shrugged, “You seem down.” I sighed and lied down on the grass again but looked at the both of them. “I’ll be fine.” “He’s acting weird lately,” Eva said. “Who?” I asked. Even though I knew who she was referring to. “Dash.” Nat answered for Eva. “Dash’s acting weird lately.” I didn’t respond for quite a while. But all I managed to do was nod. Eva put her arms around my shoulders, while Nat held and patted my hand, “He’ll be back to the old Dash.” “You think so?” I asked, keeping my hopes high. For a moment Nat and Eva exchanged looks. “Well, we know Dash.” Eva said. “But we’re just hoping for the best for you.” Nat continued. I smiled, finally. “Thanks guys.” “It’ll be okay. Things we’ll be fine.” Nat said. I looked up to the sky and thought hard. Yeah, maybe. But, what if it doesn’t?
