Something Different, 85: Yes it is.
“Okay, so…” Nat said as we finished choosing what flavour, size and shape of the cake, “Now all we need is the wordings.” “Excuse me?” I called out. Suddenly a guy with a tired looking face, using a red apron on, white shirt behind it, and a red cap to match his apron appeared, “Yes?” “Can I’ve a piece of paper and pen, please?” I asked. “Hold on,” He said and bent down under the counter. A few seconds later, he popped up and gave Nat a piece of paper and pen, “Here you go.” Nat nodded and took the stuff and said, “Thanks.” “How about,” Penelope said as she took the pen from Nat’s fingers and wrote Happy 16th Birthday, Eva! Love, your best friends on the piece of paper. “Nah.” Eric said, interrupting, “How about something more, you know, catchy?” Penelope pouted. “Fine.” Nat rolled her eyes, “Like you can come up with something catchy.” She said as she took the pen back from London’s fingers. “I can!” Eric made a fist in the air, “Lemme!” He said as he took the pen from Nat’s fingers. Nat made a funny face and sighed. We all looked at what Eric wrote: Happy Birthday, loser. I know you love me, Eric. Nat slapped his arm after she finished reading, “Eric! Be serious!” “Ow!” Eric yelped, “Fine, fine. Sorry.” I rolled my eyes and took the pen from Eric’s grasp, “Let me.” I took the paper and wrote: Happy Sweet 16th. Love, your friends. “There.” Nat took the paper and read it, behind her the others reading it as well. “It’s okay, but, replace the ‘Love, your friends’ into something—” “Catchy!” Eric said. “Yeah, yeah.” Nat said, annoyed. “Me!” London suggested, “Me! Me!” I laughed and handed her the pen and Nat handed her the paper, “Here.” London took the pen and paper and started to write. Once she was done, she showerd everybody the piece of paper: Happy Sweet 16th. Love, your partners in crime. :) “Uhsum!” Paul said from the back. I grinned, “I lavvit.” “Me, too! Love, the smiley face.” Penelope exclaimed. “I still think mine’s better.” Eric complained. “I like it.” Dash said. “I do, too. Nice, Londs.” Nat said. London gasped, “That’s a first, Nat.” We all laughed. Nat’s usually against to what London suggests and thinks, but it isthe first time she agreed to what London suggested. Nat rolled her eyes and smiled, “There’s always a first in everything.” London grinned, “Alright. That’s settled.” “How much?” I asked the baker once London handed him the paper. “Hmm.” He looked at the paper hard and finally said, “$30.00” We all looked at each other. “30 divided by 8.” Nat said. “$3.75.” Penelope blurted. “Whoa.” Dan said, “Nice.” Nat laughed, “Okay, each of us pay $3.75.” “It’s okay.” Dash finally spoke, “I’ll take care of it.” He said and looked at me. I just turned around kept quiet. “Y’sure, man?” Paul asked. “Yup.” Dash said, “Credit.” He told the baker. “Alright, sir.” “I hope Eva’s gonna flip.” Penelope shrieked. “Like I said earlier,” London started talking. “She will.” “Everything settled?” The baker asked. “Yes.” Nat said, “Yes it is.”
