Something Different, 92: It is what it is.
Me and Eva are almost there. Jesse texted me. I quickly replied, ok, just call me when u guys r ald here yeah? and pressed send. Got it. was Jesse’s reply. I quickly shoved my iPhone into the pocket of my shorts and headed towards where every body else were.
“Eva and Jesse are almost here.” I told them.
“I’ll get the cake ready!” Nat shrieked.
“I’ll help you with the candles!” Penelope said as she tagged along with Nat.
I smiled towards my friends and let out a huge sigh. The morning was beautiful. The sun was half way up, I could feel the warmth of it. The feeling was amazing. I took a deep, deep breath and let it out and turned around to find Nat and Penelope were already done with the cake. I headed towards their way.
“You alright?” I heard Eric ask.
I turned to my right and gave Eric a small smile, “I’ll be alright.”
“I’m really sorry about Dash.” was all he could say.
“It’s okay, it’s not your fault. Why should you be sorry?” I laughed softly.
“I don’t know…” He paused and looked down to his feet, “I kinda just feel like I should be sorry I guess.”
I laughed again, “Well, it’s okay. Plus, you shouldn’t be feeling sorry for me.”
Eric just smiled in return. “C’mon, let’s hurry up before Eva and Jesse come. I bet they’re almost here.”
“Okay!”
As Eric and I headed towards where Nat and Penelope were standing, I noticed that there was a white and medium sized tent that wasn’t there before. “Is that really necessary?” I asked Eric.
Eric shrugged, “It was Paul’s idea. He said instead of putting our bags and stuff on the ‘dirty’” he air quoted the word dirty, “-ground, he said just to put it in his tent.”
“It’s his?” I asked.
“Yep.”
“Oh. Well, that was smart of him.” I said as we reached to Nat and Penelope.
Eric laughed. Suddenly Paul and Dan came from behind us and the both of them were already using their swimming shorts. I lifted an eyebrow up as I looked from the both of them to Nat and Penelope… to see them both having their mouths half way open. I rolled my eyes.
“What?” Dan suddenly said to break the awkwardness.
“Why are you in your swimming boxers?” Penelope asked. I swear, her cheeks turned pink.
Instead, Paul answered Penelope’s question. “Hey, being ready for a swim isn’t a crime.”
“I never said it was.” Penelope protested.
Dan rolled his eyes and said, “Okay, okay. Let it go man.” Dan said as he put his right arm on Paul’s shoulder.
Paul laughed, “Arlight man.”
Dan gave Penelope a smile and winked at her. And all Penelope did was grin widely.
“Hey, where’s London?” I asked.
“Here I am!” I heard her shout.
I turned around to see London holding a sandwich in her hand. “Um… London, why are you eating…?”
“I was hungry okay!” London frowned. I shook my head and laughed as the others joined in. Suddenly, my pocket vibrated. I took it out and read the caller ID. It was Jesse. “Omigod!” I gasped and rejected Jesse’s call. “Jesse and Eva are coming! Quickly! Nat, Penelope, hide!” I ordered them as they nodded and hid beside the tent.
“Ivy! Eric! Paul! Dan!” I heard Eva’s shout.
I turned around to face Eva. Her hair was tied into a neat pony tail. She was wearing a plain white short sleeved t-shirt along with light blue short pants. She was carrying a bag. Next to her was cute looking Jesse. He was using a white t-shirt as well, and short black khaki pants. He had a smirk on his face.
“Omigod! Eva, hey!” I ran toward her and hugged her. “Hi, Jesse!”
“Hey, Ivy.” He replied.
I smiled, “So Eva, why don’t you put your bag inside the tent so we can go and it?”
“Okay then.” She said.
“Wait!” Jesse said, “Here, let me. I’ll put your bag in the tent.” he offered.
“Did an alien posses your body or something, Jesse?” Eva joked.
Jesse let out a sarcastic laugh, “Ha ha. Very funny.”
Eva and I chuckled, “Alright alright, it’s so sweet of you, thanks, cuz.”
“No problem.” Jesse thanked as he headed toward the tent.
“Hey Eva!” Paul said as we sat down on the picnic basket.
Eva smiled. “Hey, Paul. What’s crackin’?” She asked as she searched the inside of the picnic basket for something to eat. Suddenly, I heard people singing happy birthday from behind me. I saw Eva’s expression as she looked behind me and then grinned so wide.
London, who was holding her SLR camera, Jesse, Paul, Penelope, who was standing in between Paul and Dan, was holding a round shaped cake and beside her was Nat standing. After they finished singing happy birthday, I stood up and so did Eva.
“Happy birthday, Eva!” London said as she took a picture of both Eva and me. Good thing I had a huge smile plastered on my face.
“Happy birthday, cousin.” Jesse greeted as he hugged Eva.
“Omigod. OMIGOD. MY BIRTHDAY’S TODAY!” Eva shrieked! “Omigod. You guys…” Eva stuttered. “Thank you so much… I don’t know what to say…”
“You can always say we’re the best.” Paul suggested. Nat slapped his arm and gave him an annoyed face. “Ow!”
Eva laughed, “You guys are the best! Thanks again so much!”
“It’s really no big deal.” I winked, “Piece ‘o cake.”
Eva smiled then her expression turned confused, “Hey, I just noticed something. Where’s Dash?”
I gave her a small smile before I answered, “He couldn’t make it. But he wished you a very happy birthday and he wished that he could be here.”
“Aww, okay. I’ll message him thanks.” Eva replied.
“Well, c’mon then!” Penelope interrupted, “Let’s get this party started! Who wants cake?”
